Phoenix Pulse Pop Top Jeep Article

Julian Gothard, recently wrote an article for the RV Examiner on the new Thaler Design’s Action Camper© created for Jeep®. While he discussed the attributes of the new camper, he had to mention the current products in the market that have raised the bar on camper quality and innovation. Here are a few excerpts from the article.

“Thaler Design’s Action Camper© has joined a select band of Jeep hard shell and tent camper conversions – like the Phoenix Pulse pop top, the EarthRoamer XVJP and the JK Habitat – that can transform your long-wheelbase Jeep® JK Wrangler into a compact, trail rated overland expedition vehicle.”

“Whilst the Action Camper is more expensive than the basic $6000 JK Habitat roof top tent, the hard sided shell and its pop top clearly offers more amenities and more useable interior space. The Action Camper’s closest competitor is in my estimation the 400lb Phoenix Jeep Pulse pop up – offered at an MSRP of $12,995 – which just bolts onto the structure of your existing Jeep. The initial fitting of the Pulse requires significantly less effort than the Action Camper – simply remove the roof and tailgate and drive under the (included) loading jacks..”

“The Phoenix Pulse uses an aluminum double welded cage frame, which is packed with an extruded foam core insulation, sandwiched within the composite structure and then covered with a sheet bonded fiberglass siding. The unit includes a 3-speed roof vent, a thermostatically controlled catalytic propane furnace, a refrigerator/freezer, 3-burner range, and stainless steel sink with electric water pump. The elegantly designed spring loaded pop top loft (with flip out bed extension) can be deployed in less than 60 seconds and is said to be able to withstand 80+ mph winds and a snow load of over 1,500 lbs. Here’s a video of the Phoenix Pulse Jeep JK camper interior that I shot at the 2011 Overland Expo.”
